How out of touch we are with reality sometimes. We believe our thoughts as they arise and then we believe that our thoughts tell us the truth about our lives, the world, the universe. The next step is suffering due to believing these thoughts. The truth is we have almost no idea about what is really going on in reality “out there” because we rarely actually notice – we are too busy entertaining out thoughts. All of our attention is focused on believing thoughts that are mostly lies.
Your attention is so precious, it is your power – your power to create or destroy what you like or don’t like in your life – do you really want to be draining all of your power by giving it to lying thoughts that steal your attention all day long?
If not then question those thoughts.
Some good thoughts to question for today:
1. I don’t have enough money
2. I won’t have enough money for the rest of the year (the month, the week, the day)
3. Things are not safe (in my life, in the world) because the economy is in crisis
4. Danger is all around me
5. I am not important enough, I haven’t made it yet
6. I am not good enough
7. I am not worthy of other peoples’ love, attention, kindness
8. If I get sick (or sicker) my life will be painful, agonizing, and miserable
9. I am wasting my life – I’m not accomplishing my goals
10. I am so lonely
If any of these resonate with you in some way – are the thoughts you have about yourself really true? What if they were not? What are you afraid would happen if you were to let go of those thoughts?
